George Brown Convention Center

The George R Brown Convention Center in Houston is known as the GRB. The convention center is famous now for housing over 7,000 refuges after hurricane Katrina. These were the people that toughed out the hurricane in the Superdome. The land for most of the convention center was donated by the entrepreneur George R Brown. The city of Houston owns the convention center. Oftentimes people refer to the convention center simply as the Houston Convention Center.
The convention center was officially opened in 1987 and has already had a renovation in 2001. With the size of the convention center, until recently Houston had trouble housing the visitors due to lack of downtown hotel space. But now since the hilton has been opened and there are numerous boutique hotels in the area, this has worked for the benefit of the convention center with more conventions being booked here.
